Energising zinger shot ūüôĆ

Energising zinger shot

I'm not a morning person at all, but i've had to force myself to get into the groove lately. I'll be honest it takes a strong black coffee to power me up and it has become a bit of a habit, so much so that if I don't have a caffeine hit by 10am I get a headache. Not a good sign I know!

So, in a bid to try to change my ways I've been trying out different morning energisers that can replace my morning coffee.

Exercise...i know it's hard pre coffee, but actually it really works. I cycle to work in the morning now rather than drive and it makes such a difference. I think it's the combination of the exercise and the fresh air to be honest, but by the time i get in i'm much more ready for action.

However, old habits die hard and although i've managed to delay my coffee habit i still find myself putting on a pot of coffee by 10am.

Success in one sense, coffee is no longer my number one stop in the morning, but I do still 'need' it...or rather I think i need it.

In comes the zinger shot. My habit is drinking what I perceive to be an energy boost (a cup of coffee), so if i change this energy boost to a drink that is packed full of vitamins and actual energy rather than caffeine, then i'm bound to be onto a winner...right!?

I made a batch today and it certainly put a spring in my step this afternoon, it tastes amazing and has a proper kick to it. So tomorrow i'm going to pour myself a little glass of this rather than reaching for the coffee pot...wish me luck!!!

If you're feeling inspired to join me on my quest to reduce caffeine. Or if you just fancy a delicious juice that's packed full of antioxidants then here's the recipe...

Energising zinger shot

Ingredients (makes 4-6 small glasses):

  • 1x grapefruit
  • 2x oranges
  • 2x carrots
  • 1 inch cubed fresh ginger
  • 1tsp turmeric
  • 4-5 cubes ice

Method (no juicer required):

  • Half the grapefruit & oranges and squeeze all the juice through a sieve¬†into a jug blender to avoid getting the pips in there.
  • Peel & grate the carrots & ginger into the blender with the citrus juice.
  • Add turmeric & ice cubes into the blender.
  • Blitz until smooth and¬†juicy.
  • Easy!

Share your photos or experiences if you give it a go.

I'll keep you posted on how my pursuit of caffeine reduction unfolds!

Happy juicing lovelies :-)

  • Okay, so I have to be honest my endeavours to quit coffee aren’t quite going to plan. I managed to go cold turkey on Sunday. It wasn’t easy and by the end of the day I had an exploding headache. I pushed through it and thought, tomorrows a new day…but I woke up with the same stinking headache, just worse. On my cycle to work I actually thought i was going to have to get off and be sick!?! I have never experienced such severe coffee withdrawal symptoms…this has shocked me into taking action.
I HAD to have a coffee once i got to work because i was struggling to function and if there was a chance a cup of coffee was going to sort me out, i was doing it…it kinda did but i have to be honest I haven’t felt right all day!
So, i reckon i’m going to have to CUT DOWN instead of trying to go cold turkey, it’s just too painful. This week i’m only going to allow myself one cup a day and then next week start pushing back the time that I have it so it becomes less habitual.
Wish me luck…any top tips from fellow caffeine addicts hugely appreciated!
