Highly processed convenience foods packed full of additives, preservatives and flavourings have become the norm. It’s bad for our health, it’s bad for our environment and it’s bad for our soul.
But we live in a world that moves faster than ever before and shows no signs of slowing down, so having the time to cook from scratch often seems like a luxury, or worse, an impossibility!
Unfortunately convenience, health and sustainability can be hard to come by, so that's what I set out to create. Healthy, sustainable meals that can fit into even the most hectic of schedules. No nasties, no funny business, just good honest whole foods cooked with care and frozen fresh to keep the nutrients locked in.
Nutrition, sustainability and taste are the three pillars that we stay true to. If it's not nutritious, sustainable and down right delicious then it's not from New Norm.
If you want to feel well you need to eat well. No shit. But it wasn’t until I stopped eating on auto pilot and actively chose to start eating a plant-based diet that I realised how good I could feel. For years I had always felt a little bloated, had poor complexion and more often than not was lacking energy. When I started fuelling myself with a healthy balance of plant-based nutrients I felt lighter, brighter and energised within a week. It proved to me how huge a role nutrition plays in your holistic health and has made a massive difference to how I think about food. Food is your fuel, stop running on half empty!
It’s no secret that our planet is in a bad way. It’s easy to feel defeated or powerless, but together we make up the masses, so if we all start making changes on an individual level, we can at least try to make an impact.
Ways that New Norm can help you reduce your carbon footprint:
- All of our meals and snacks are 100% plant based, that means no meat and no dairy, just delicious, fresh whole foods. Reducing your consumption of meat and dairy is one of the most impactful ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions are from food production and over half of that is from animal products!
- We freeze our meals fresh to lock in the nutrients and minimise food waste. Ever gone to the supermarket, filled your fridge with fresh fruit & veg, only to not get round to cooking it? You’re not alone, on average Scottish households throw away £39 worth of food every month. Not only are you throwing your money away, but food waste also produces methane!
- Our meals are all packed in biodegradable containers and delivered to you in biodegradable temperature controlled boxes. The only plastic we use to package your meals is the film lid seal (we’re working on an alternative).
Mouth wateringly tasty
It’s last on the list, but it’s always first on our minds. New Norm was borne out of the desire to show people how good plant-based food can taste. It doesn’t have to be all chickpeas, tomatoes & rice…we love all of those ingredients, but there’s a world of delicious flavours to explore and quite frankly it's much more exciting than meat & two veg! I’m not going to try to tell you how good our food tastes because it’s much more believable, not to mention humble, if it comes from someone else...
